The Marquee

Denver, Colorado, USA

2017

Drawing inspiration from music venues around Denver, Colorado such as the Bluebird, The Gothic, and The Ogden, this sign was originally created for a design studio to welcome prospective clients and exclaim important events. It now lives in a local ice cream parlor advertising special flavors and welcoming messages.

Raw steel sheet metal meant to wear gracefully.

This sign is huge btw, eight feet wide by six feet tall. The marquee frame is constructed with angle iron and the sheet elements tack welded in place. The right side of the sign frame removes to change letters and service lights. The soft warm glow of the individual bulbs and twinkle behind the lettering is especially inviting and makes a killer nightlight when the business is closed for the evening.

Collaboration with Dusty Terry, Shane Korthuis, Schuyler Livingston and Leah Rich

Repurposed lettering, we will never know what they could have said…

It goes without saying that if we can find something to repurpose, we will use it. Age is beauty, and old materials tell stories on the scars they wear.
